RAKU

The original Japanese raku process, used primarily for tea bowls, involves low-temperature firing in a kiln and then removing the glowing hot pottery to cool in the open air or water, creating unique glaze effects and forms harmoniously with nature. Westernized versions, involve post-firing reduction in a combustible chamber to generate dramatic, iridescent finishes.
